June Zanetti (1936 – 2025): A Legacy of Love, Strength, and Grace

June P. Zanetti, born in June 1936 in NYC, was a woman of remarkable strength, elegance, and love. As the eldest of eight siblings, she led a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion to family and community. She is survived by her beloved siblings—April, Libby, Jack, Kate, and Laura—her cherished sons, Peter and John, and their wives, Christine and Pat. She was a proud and doting grandmother to Peter, John A., and James. She was predeceased by her beloved brothers, Jimmy and Teddy, as well as her devoted husbands, Peter C. Zanetti and Sam Morekas.

A Childhood Shaped by New York’s Energy

June’s early years in New York City were filled with magic and discovery. She spent much of her childhood with her grandmothers, who nurtured her love for culture, style, and hospitality. From the dazzling lights of Broadway to the wonder of Central Park, Coney Island, and Radio City Music Hall, June embraced the city's vibrant energy—a passion that never waned. One of her grandmothers, a true "Carteresian," taught her the art of dressing elegantly and creating a home that exuded warmth and beauty.

A graduate of the prestigious Katharine Gibbs School, June embarked on a promising career at American Screen, earning $50 a week—marking the beginning of an incredible journey. It was there that she met the love of her life, Peter C. Zanetti, and together, they built an extraordinary life filled with love and adventure, creating a beautiful family with two wonderful sons.

A Family Built on Love and Tradition

June and Peter’s journey took them across the country—from New York to Chicago and ultimately to North Miami Beach, where they spent four decades building a home that became the heart of their family. June was the soul of every gathering, ensuring that every meal was a feast, every occasion was celebrated in grand style, and every visitor felt welcomed with open arms. The table was always adorned with the finest china, crystal, and silver—a testament to her love for creating moments of joy and elegance.

Her greatest pride, however, was in raising her two sons, Peter and John. She instilled in them the values of kindness, perseverance, resilience, and adventure, encouraging them to explore the world, embrace new experiences, and never back down from a challenge. Whether it was a trip to Europe, attending space launches, the Indy 500, or road-tripping along the East Coast, June was always there—her sons’ biggest cheerleader, unwavering in her support. Her home was not only a sanctuary for her family but also a haven for friends, neighbors, and even football players during the Super Bowl, where she hosted legendary BBQs and touch football games.

A Passion for Community and Service

June’s generosity extended far beyond her family. A tireless volunteer and community leader, she dedicated herself to organizations like the Junior Women’s Club, Young Patrons of the Opera, and the Council of Catholic Women at St. Laurence, where she served as President. She was a driving force behind fundraising efforts for the first Catholic college in Miami—Biscayne College, now known as Barry University—and played a pivotal role in the ARS Flores Symphony. A true leader, planner, and advocate, she used her remarkable organizational skills to bring people together for meaningful causes.

Her home became a cultural hub, hosting events for the Chopin Society and gatherings that supported Miami’s artistic and religious communities. Whether she was organizing galas, charity drives, or parish fundraisers, June’s ability to inspire others and make a tangible difference was unmatched.

A Home That Welcomed All

June’s warmth and hospitality were legendary. Her home was always filled with music, laughter, and the delicious aromas of home-cooked meals. Friends, neighbors, and family members found solace and joy within its walls, creating memories that would last a lifetime. She cultivated deep and lasting friendships, ensuring that those around her always felt valued, appreciated, and loved.

Embracing New Chapters with Strength and Grace

After Peter’s passing in 1999, June found a new purpose as a volunteer coordinator at Villa Maria, a role she cherished until 2004. She then embraced yet another reinvention, moving to North Palm Beach, where she spent the last 21 years of her life. In 2007, she found love again, marrying Sam Morekas. Together, they traveled, laughed, and built beautiful memories until Sam’s passing in 2022. She was embraced by Sam’s children, Spiro, Dean, and Stacie, who became a cherished part of her extended family.

In her final years, June continued to live with grace, independence, and an unbreakable spirit. She remained surrounded by the love of family and friends until her peaceful passing, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and love.

A Legacy That Lives On

June’s life was a testament to the power of love, reinvention, and generosity. Her message to the world was simple yet profound:

"Do not be afraid to reinvent yourself. Be kind. Surround yourself with love. And always, always let those around you know how much you love them."

Her radiant spirit, unwavering kindness, and ability to bring people together will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. June P. Zanetti’s extraordinary legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
