Russ Griffin, 57, of Defiance, Missouri, and Pompano Beach, FL, passed away on April 8th, 2024, in Broward County, FL.
Russ - Son of the late James and Hermina Griffin, was born on July 30th, 1966. Russ was a principled man and expected those around him to live up to his standards of loyalty, respect, trust, and excellence. He may have seemed to have a tough exterior at times, but was always a deeply loving and caring individual. Russ lived in New York for most of his life where he met Mary, whom he was a loving husband to for 26 years. Russ, a painter and wallpaper hanger by trade, hung up his overalls to be a stay-at-home father for his twin sons, Kevin and Chris Griffin. Russ constantly provided his sons compassionate care, cooked delicious meals, and taught his sons many valuable lessons. In 2013, when Mary's job moved them west, they settled and engrained themselves in the community of Defiance, MO.
Russ had an incredibly adventurous spirit. He enjoyed his motorcycles, fast cars, and boats. Most recently, he and Mary began roadtripping in their camper van, “Nice n’ Easy,'' exploring parks in the Midwest, Florida, and Colorado. When he wasn’t traveling, Russ loved to entertain with his harmonica; his family didn’t often know what he was playing, but he was always happy while performing. Russ was a versatile craftsman, artist, and a master woodworker: he reveled in making frames for the photos he took, and cutting boards as presents for many of his loved ones.
Russ is survived by his wife, Mary Bender Griffin, his Sons Kevin Griffin, Chris Griffin (Katie Smith), and the cats: Snap, Crackle, and Pop. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Ronald McDonald House in Russ’ memory. A celebration of life is being planned.
